Switch from your current tool without starting over
Whether you are mid-project with ShareGate, waiting on an AvePoint quote, or counting per-user licences for Quest, BitTitan or Cloudiway, here is exactly what carries over, what does not, and how to finish the migration you have started.
30-day free trial, full product, card taken at checkout, nothing charged until day 30.
What carries over, and what does not
The honest list. Two things carry over cleanly, one is unnecessary, and the rest are recreated in minutes.
Migration state
Every tool keeps its own job state and none of them export it in a form another tool can read. ShareShift does not need it: its assessment enumerates the source and the destination, and its incremental copy detects what is already there, so a half-finished migration is finished by copying only what is missing or changed, with version history kept.
User and group mappings
A user mapping CSV with a source identity column and a destination identity column can be imported into ShareShift as it is. Group mappings work the same way. Keep the file you built for ShareGate or any other tool; the work is not lost.
ShareGate project files
ShareGate projects cannot be imported and we will not pretend otherwise. Recreate the source and destination pairs in ShareShift, which usually takes minutes because the assessment shows both sides and suggests the obvious matches.
Reports
Reports from your previous tool do not import, and you should keep them for the audit trail of what that tool did. ShareShift produces its own assessment report before the run and a completion report afterwards, with an item-level log on the worker.
Entra app registration
If your current tool uses an app registration with a certificate and the permissions ShareShift needs, you can reuse it. Most people create a fresh one so that consent can be withdrawn for each tool separately; the setup guide takes about ten minutes.
Destination structure
Sites, libraries, lists and teams that already exist in the destination are used, not duplicated. ShareShift maps to what is there and adds only what is missing.
Finishing a migration another tool started
- 1
Start the trial
Sign in and choose a plan on the pricing page to start the 30-day free trial. It is the full product with three workers and unlimited data, and card taken at checkout, not charged until day 30 is needed.
- 2
Install a worker
Install ShareShift on a Windows or macOS machine inside your network, register the Entra app with a certificate, and paste in the trial key. Nothing is installed in your tenant.
- 3
Run the assessment
Point it at the same source your current tool was migrating and at the destination. The report lists permissions, path lengths, invalid characters, orphaned users and what already exists at the destination.
- 4
Import your mappings
Load the user and group mapping CSV you already have. Fix anything the assessment flagged as unresolved.
- 5
Run an incremental copy
Start the job. Items already at the destination with matching versions are skipped; new and changed items are copied. Pause it, schedule it for the weekend, or move it to another worker at any time.
- 6
Compare the reports and cut over
Put the ShareShift completion report beside the old tool's report. When you are satisfied, cancel the old renewal and pick a plan; the trial converts without reinstalling anything.
Questions people ask when switching
Can ShareShift import a ShareGate project?
No. ShareGate project files are not importable. Source and destination pairs are recreated in ShareShift, and the user and group mapping CSVs you built for ShareGate can be reused directly.
Will ShareShift recopy everything my old tool already moved?
No. ShareShift re-runs are incremental: items already at the destination with matching versions are skipped and only new or changed items are copied, with version history preserved.
Do I have to wait for my ShareGate subscription to end?
No. Run both in parallel on the 30-day trial, compare the reports, and let the ShareGate renewal lapse when you are confident. Nothing in ShareShift depends on ShareGate being present or absent.
What is the founding offer?
A limited number of early Annual subscriptions at a reduced price, locked for as long as the subscription stays active. The offer is not currently open; Annual is $2,995 a year.
What if I only need a tool for one project?
Use the monthly plan at $499 a month with no commitment and cancel from the portal when you are done. Workers finish in-flight packages and stop starting new ones within fifteen minutes.
Run it beside your current tool for a month
Full product, three workers, every workload, unlimited data. No sales call, no charge until day 30. When you are ready, pick a plan from the portal and keep the same key.
Compare ShareShift with the tool you use today
Every comparison uses the vendor's own published prices and limits, with a section on where they are stronger than us. How switching works.
